“The Battle of the Great Cane Brake”

Hopkins Historic Farm

3511 Fork Shoals Road

Simpsonville, South Carolina

Hosted by the Greenville County Historical Society

The Snow Campaign was the initial military phase of the war in the South Carolina Backcountry. The culminating battle was the Battle of the Great Cane Brake, the only pitched battle ever fought in Greenville County. In 1876 the Hopkins family planted a grove of pecan trees on their property, which is the site of the battle. Some of these trees are still standing at “Patriot’s Grove”. After the discussion, weather permitting, we will tour this grove and view the site.
